Abstract
The new, $2.6-billion terminal at Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport is being built in the middle of the existing facility with no reduction in operations, which has required careful sequencing and siting of the project. The new main terminal is being built top-down, to permit fabrication of huge, 50-ton roof sections on site. Fast-track planning has materials arriving just in time, though shortages occur. Labor may be short, too, when the craft force, now stretching supplies at 300, peaks at 1,600 in 2002. The first stage is anticipated to open in 2003.
