Toronto is the third most transit dependent city in North America, after New York and Mexico City. It has two transit systems, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and GO Transit. The ridership of TTC is flat, and some parts of the system are shrinking while the GO Transit ridership grew 35% over the last five years. The article discusses the future plans for these two systems: TTC is putting all available funds into bringing the existing system to a state of good repair while GO Transit is seeking funding for a new, 62-mile, $C1 billion Rapid Transit System that will be Bus Rapid Transit.
