Canada es considerado como un referente internacional del multiculturalismo cuando se analizan politicas de integracion. No en vano, este pais fue el primero en adoptar oficialmente dicha ideologia como politica normativa, y practicamente el unico que ha elevado dicha decision al marco constitucional. Esto no obstante, el multiculturalismo canadiense actual puede leerse tambien en clave critica. Por otra parte, en Canada confluyen diversidades historicas o tradicionales con nuevas y mas complejas diversidades. Este marco hace especialmente interesante realizar un analisis critico de la eficacia real del modelo de Canada, para calibrar su posible extension a otras sociedades occidentales que presentan igualmente un nivel creciente de diversidad.
