Abstract
SUBTITLE: RECENT HISTORY HAS NOT GIVEN MUCH CAUSE FOR OPTIMISM FOR FREIGHT OPERATORS OR THE SUPPLIERS OF CARGO AIRCRAFT. THE WORLD AIR CARGO INDUSTRY HAD BEEN IN A STATE OF RECESSION EVEN BEFORE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. THE RECESSION, WHICH IS THE WORST THE AIR CARGO INDUSTRY HAS SEEN SINCE 1970, IS ATTRIBUTABLE LARGELY TO THE OVERALL US SLOWDOWN WHICH BEGAN IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2001. GEOFF HEARN LOOKS AT THE STATE OF THE CARGO MARKET AND EVALUATES THE BENEFITS OF NEW FREIGHTERS COMPARED WITH CONVERTED AIRCRAFT.
