Abstract
The role of procurement is drastically changing as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies seek to maximize their value to clients and create a significant competitive advantage for themselves. This is particularly true in bridge engineering and construction. This article describes six steps designed to bring a new strategic dimension to the procurement process for EPC companies. These steps include: center-led procurement; strategic sourcing; supplier integration; enterprise spend management; supplier diversity; and cross-industry benchmarking.
