Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

A number of conceptual issues, themes and questions ground this study. Multiple meanings of ‘work’ and ‘learning’ topped this list, but many more also pertained – ‘informal’ and ‘formal’ learning, teacher knowledge, professional/ism, ‘professional development,’ and teacher induction. All of these concepts clearly warranted further historical, theoretical and/or sociological exploration, and it was on this basis that we undertook our examination of some of the relevant literature – academic, professional and general; Canadian and international. These concepts also form the basis on which this chapter is structured. Clearly, given the number of themes covered here, providing a completely comprehensive literature review for each would take up much more space than is possible to allocate here. However, it is hoped that at least some of the basic studies covering each of these themes have been included in this chapter. In addition, each of the ensuing chapters will also cite literature pertinent to the themes covered.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
