Buku ini mengupas sejarah Kerajaan Mori, salah satu kerajaan di Indonesia yang berkembang sekitar abad ke-16. Wilayah kerajaan ini sekerang menjadi bagian dari wilayah Morowali Utara, Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah. Edward L. Poelinggomang, sejarawan yang memang memfokuskan perhatian pada kajian sejarah lokal Sulawesi, melalui buku ini menelusuri perkembangan kerajaan itu dari awal hingga meleburkan diri menjadi bagian dari Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia. Ia mengeksplorasi sedemikian rupa berbagai sumber sehingga karyanya ini menjadi buku pertama yang secara luas berhasil menguak dinamika internal yang mendasari proses kesejarahan Kerajaan Mori lengkap dengan keadaan sosial-budaya masyarakatnya. Sebuah buku penting sebab bukan saja menyumbangkan kajian sejarah lokal kita yang miskin, tetapi juga pengetahuan kita memang miskin ihwal daerah-daerah dan masyarakat dengan sejarahnya di Indonesia.
