Abstract
A new tri-national general specification for the design of cold-formed steel members has been developed for North America. The standard was developed through the collaboration of the American Iron and Steel Institute, the Canadian Standards Association and the Camara Nacional de la Industrial del Hierro y del Acero. The new standard will help remove regulatory barriers so steel product manufacturers in Canada, United States and Mexico will no longer have to reengineer their products and systems to meet the different standards of each country. It provides an integrated treatment of load and resistance factor design, limit states design and strength design. The publication also includes country-specific technical provisions where full agreement between the countries could not be reached. The steel members specified in this standard have a wide range of application in construction, including as lateral protections in highways and rigid supports in bridges.
