Abstract
Monica Heller, linguiste et anthropologue canadienne, pose dans ce volume les bases de la sociolinguistique critique comme cadre théorique et comme méthode de recherche, par le biais d’une ethnographie de longue durée, des années 1970 au début du XXIe siècle, sur l’évolution des discours, des pratiques et des idéologies du Canada francophone. Comment expérimenter une sociolinguistique qui met au centre de ses interrogations le rôle des pratiques et des idéologies langagières dans la construction de la différence et de l’inégalité sociales ? Originellement publié en 2003, cet ouvrage, dont nous proposons ici une nouvelle édition, a ouvert tout un champ de recherche et s’est imposé comme une référence essentielle et un outil incontournable dans la formation en sociolinguistique. Cette deuxième édition ajoute au texte original plusieurs éléments d’actualisation sur les terrains étudiés mais aussi sur le plan théorique, méthodologique, politique et déontologique.
