L’opposition entre public et privé a longtemps structuré notre manière de voir et d’interpréter l’action dans le domaine de l’éducation. Plutôt que d’admettre le rapport public-privé comme une opposition indépassable, cet ouvrage analyse comment ces concepts sont utilisés dans la pratique, travaillés, réinterprétés, etc. C’est bien à une dialectique entre public et privé que nous sommes confrontés. L’ouvrage veut ainsi répondre aux faiblesses ou au caractère convenu du débat en proposant une analyse argumentée et scientifiquement fondée de l’expansion de la privatisation et de la marchandisation de l’éducation. Les contributions abordent ces questions à partir de l’étude de cas diversifiés, issus de différents espaces politiques francophones (Belgique francophone, France, Québec, Suisse), sans négliger l’attention à ce qui se passe ailleurs, dans une visée comparatiste. Les problèmes posés, qui se situent à différents niveaux de l’enseignement, veulent témoigner du mouvement entre prise en charge publique et prise en charge privée de l’éducation. Dans chacun des cas étudiés, sont également interrogés l’état du débat chez les professionnels de l’éducation et leur capacité à produire des réponses soucieuses de contribuer à la justice du système d’enseignement. Les contributeurs cherchent ainsi à la fois à faire une sorte d’état des lieux sur les thématiques très actuelles de la privatisation et de la marchandisation de l’éducation et à susciter chez les professionnels de l’éducation la recherche des réactions adaptées, notamment en important dans le système public les avantages proposés par les opérateurs privés, au bénéfice du plus grand nombre.
