Abstract
Construction has proceeded smoothly for the $140-million, 21-km extension of Vancouver's Millennium Skyway light rail network, but money disputes over the project's design-build contract are raging. The technical achievement is completing North America's largest precast segmental concrete guideway project in what might be a record short time. The article details innovative delivery and installation systems for pre-cast segments. The rail system, constructed for Vancouver's Expo '86, was said to be the first completely automated urban railway in the West. The new system will be able to run two types of cars on the same track.
