Abstract
Canadian Pacific Railroad is using vehicle identification numbers that automobile manufacturers use to track each car through Canadian Pacific's transport network. The compound management system traces all the events a vehicle experiences from the moment it starts its journey at the shipping facility to the moment it arrives at the car dealership. It gives manufacturers real-time information and logs cars as they're loaded and unloaded and as they enter and leave yards. High visibility will enable them to improve velocity across the network.
