Abstract
In response to popular economists' claims that wages must fall, social programs must be stripped away, taxes must be cut, and environmental regulations must be relaxed for Canada to be competitive in the global economy, this primer on political and economic analysis surpasses simplistic theory and considers the empirical results of economic policy. Essential questions such as Who benefits from the economic structure of capitalism? are answered with understandable explanations of how business and government amass power. This humanistic approach to basic economic analysis shows that the new economic mantra of decentralization reveals a sympathy toward the free-market economy and not toward the welfare of Canadian citizens.
