Abstract
À partir d'enquêtes empiriques concernant les transformations des croyances et des organisations religieuses dans la culture québécoise, au cours des dix dernières années, les auteurs proposent d'établir les coordonnées d'une économie générale du religieux contemporain, à la fois comme complexe d'adaptations institutionnelles à la modernité et d'appropriations individuelles d'un ordre imaginaire congruent aux expériences contemporaines. La dialectique du sujet et de l'institution qui s'y profile conduit alors à proposer l'analyse du marché des biens de salut comme l'institutionnalisation d'une régulation sémiotique du religieux, constituée de la tension constante des subjectivités en émergence et des institutions qui ont besoin, pour leur propre survie, des expériences que leur apportent les individus. S'y rencontrent producteurs, diffuseurs et consommateurs de biens de saluts dans une dymanique d'échange où le champ religieux de la modernité se définit lui-même comme une structure d'émergences réactivant sa fonction perenne qui est d'assurer la représentation de l'unité imaginaire de la société et du monde.
