Meme si les economies canadienne et quebecoise s'en sont mieux tirees que la majorite des economies industrialisees lors de la derniere crise financiere, il n'en reste pas moins que cet episode a eu une influence negative sur les finances publiques. Depuis que la reprise est amorcee, les gouvernements multiplient les efforts pour redresser les finances publiques et eliminer les deficits budgetaires qui semblent vouloir persister. A l'heure ou des choix de societe s'imposent, il convient d'examiner l'etat de la situation des finances publiques quebecoises. Pour sa cinquieme edition (2013-2014), Le Quebec economique se penche donc sur ces questions. Grâce aux contributions d'auteurs de differents horizons, le present ouvrage dresse un portrait accessible des finances publiques quebecoises. Apres avoir presente une analyse de l'economie du Quebec et du niveau de bien-etre des Quebecois, Le Quebec economique 5 s'interesse aux determinants economiques de l'etat des finances publiques, telles les exportations et la productivite. L'ouvrage presente ensuite les enjeux budgetaires specifiques que sont la productivite du secteur public, l'incidence des depenses publiques et les tendances en matiere d'institutions budgetaires. Enfin, un ouvrage sur les finances publiques ne pourrait passer sous silence l'enjeu que representent les regimes de retraite a long terme. La derniere partie de cet ouvrage est consacree a 50 fiches thematiques regroupant les indicateurs les plus pertinents et fournissant des donnees permettant de saisir l'etat de l'economie quebecoise et de comprendre ses tendances.
