Este texto examina o progresso das relações econômicas, políticas e sociais entre o Canadá e a América Latina da pré-confederação ao presente, revisando a literatura sobre o assunto e apontando para seus principais passos à medida que o Canadá foi se tornando membro de importantes organizações regionais e aumentando seu intercâmbio com as nações latino americanas, de um contraponto à hegemonia dos Estados Unidos na área à agenda de segurança humana.Abstract: This text examines the progress of Canada/Latin American economical, political and social relations from the pre-confederation to the present, reviewing the literature about the subject and pointing out its main steps as Canada became a member of important regional organizations and increased its exchanges with Latin American nations, from a counterpart to the US hegemony in the region to a human security agenda.
