Abstract
Depuis la parution de son livre-culte The Rise of the Creative Class (2002), Richard Florida a prononcé de nombreuses conférences sur les effets de la classe créative et du secteur culturel sur la compétitivité des villes aux États-Unis, au Canada et ailleurs dans le monde. Dans ses travaux, il aborde aussi la question de l'attraction et de la rétention des « talents » aux États-Unis, « talents » qui auraient joué un rôle clé dans le développement et la domination de l'économie américaine à l'échelle mondiale. Cet ouvrage analyse, de façon critique, les thèses de Florida tout en proposant des élargissements et des approfondissements de certaines de ces idées. Il s'adresse aux décideurs publics, comme à tous ceux qui s'intéressent au développement local, régional et national, ainsi qu'au rôle des activités culturelles et artistiques dans le développement économique et dans l'aménagement des territoires urbains.
