L’histoire des bibliothèques scolaires au Québec est jalonnée de soubresauts, de prises de conscience, suivies d’actions ponctuelles, jusqu’ici mises au rancart, à cause d’une absence de vision quant à leur valeur pédagogique et à leur influence sur la réussite éducative des jeunes. La réforme actuelle du système d’éducation a engendré plusieurs actions et certaines d’entre elles ont entraîné la mise en place de mesures qui présagent d’une meilleure reconnaissance de son rôle dans la formation de l’élève. Cependant, il reste encore plusieurs défis à relever pour espérer atteindre cet objectif : son intégration pédagogique ne pourra réellement se réaliser que si on en renouvelle la vision et qu’on accepte d’investir dans les ressources humaines, essentielles pour en assurer leur vitalité.
