L'optimisation de la securite routiere represente une des priorites du ministere des Transports du Quebec. Dans cet esprit, l'amelioration de la visibilite de la signalisation horizontale, dans toutes les conditions climatiques, constitue un enjeu important. Dans le contexte du XXIe siecle, les progres recents concernant les materiaux et les nouvelles normes ENVIRONMENTales nous obligent a reviser nos politiques ministerielles et nos pratiques. Dans cette optique, nous presenterons la nouvelle approche de la gestion de la signalisation horizontale au Quebec. Pour mieux vous situer, nous decrirons brievement l'etat de la situation de la signalisation horizontale. Nous traiterons ensuite des homologations des produits de marquage qui nous permettent d'etudier la visibilite (la durabilite et la retroreflexion) du marquage par le biais de plus de 300 essais realises avec les produits soumis par les fabricants. A la suite des homologations, nous pouvons classifier les produits de courte, de moyenne (2 ans) et de longue duree (plus de 4 ans). Subsequemment, nous presenterons la nouvelle approche qui consiste a evaluer l'etat du marquage pour lequel le Ministere a mis au point une classification de la durabilite et de la retroreflexion.
