Abstract

The paper discusses models which intend to enhance information retrieval by taking into account knowledge about interaction within scientific communities and the social status of their actors. Basis for this are social networks that are constructed by coauthorships (author networks). Studies of the topology of author networks, described in the paper, show that these networks have a substantial potential for information systems. The paper discusses scenarios which describe how author networks and in particular the concept of actor centrality can be meaningfully used to improve searching in databases.
