Abstract
My aim in this chapter is to look at the interconnections between phases of the imposition of the discipline of capital; phases in the international circulation, or world market movement, of various forms of capital; and phases in the geopolitical spread of a ‘heartland’ of capital, originally centred on England and the lands of English settlement. My argument is that as the new millennium begins, a combination of the discipline of capital with the interests of the most powerful states not only is undermining global production but is actually jeopardizing humanity’s existence on the planet.
