Air traffic controllers have traditionally used paper flight strips to track information for arriving and departing aircraft. NAV CANADA's automated version is being adopted by London's three main airports. The system, Integrated Information Display System (IIDS), supports ten applications, including electronic flight strips, called Flight Data Entries. Controllers can access FDEs, send information, make requests and perform other clerical operations via touch screens. By reducing manual updates, errors are reduced and air traffic controllers can focus on managing aircraft.
