Abstract
À la veille du bicentenaire de la Révolution française et de l’avènement d’une citoyenneté européenne, les symboles constitutifs et les mythes fondateurs de l’État-nation se trouvent plus que jamais posés au centre du débat politique. Avec une immigration de moins en moins étrangère, de moins en moins immigrée, de plus en plus résidante, ici et maintenant, et de moins en moins tournée vers les pays d’origine, la France est désormais, encore plus qu’hier, une société pluriethnique et pluriculturelle, interrogée dans son histoire, dans son identité et dans son devenir. L’immigration, devenue défi politique, impose de nouvelles règles du jeu, de nouveaux enjeux et de nouveaux acteurs qui contribuent à redéfinir le contenu de la citoyenneté et les liens qu’elle entretient avec la nationalité.
