Abstract
Les normes et specifications traditionnelles du beton ont ete largement exprimees en termes de moyen (ou basees sur des prescriptions). Elles peuvent gener l'innovation et l'utilisation de betons plus ecologiques en imposant des dosages minimaux en ciment et des niveaux de substitution limites pour les additions minerales. La norme Canadienne CSA A23.1-04 contient des dispositions pour des betons avec des teneurs en additions elevees et a clairement indique les conditions et responsabilites pour etre utilisee dans le cadre d'une specification performantielle des betons. Dans la presente contribution, la discussion relative aux specifications par objectifs se concentre: 1) sur les limites des essais de permeabilite et de diffusion, 2) sur le role des essais rapides de permeabilite (et de la penetrabilite des chlorures) et 3) sur l'utilite d'autres parametres relatifs a la durabilite. Cette discussion se fonde sur la recherche des auteurs et sur leurs contributions au developpement des normes Nord-americaines (ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, OPSS et CSA) ainsi que sur les recentes etudes pour les specifications de performances de la Ready-Mixed Concrete Foundation (Fondation du Beton Pret a l'Emploi).
