Abstract
PARMI LES FILMS PIONNIERS DU CINÉMA QUÉBÉCOIS, LE PLUS CÉLÈBRE EST sans contredit En pays neufs (1937), long métrage documentaire de l'abbé Maurice Proulx.II s'agit d'un film de propagande abordant la colonisation de l'Abitibi en prenant pour exemple la petite communauté de Sainte-Anne de Roquemaure.C'est avec ce film que commence à prendre forme le premier mythe identitaire du notre cinéma : le Québécois est ainsi défini comme un colon, un défricheur, capable de prendre possession d'une parcelle de territoire, d'y mettre de l'ordre, d'y domestiquer la nature et de voir ses efforts récompensés par des récoltes généreuses.Dans les nombreux films abordant le même sujet qui vont suivrepensons notamment à L'abatis (1952) de Raymond Garceau et Bernard Devlin et aux Brûlés (1958) de Bernard Devlin -la vision de la nature est cependant moins idyllique.Celle-ci est en effet présentée comme hostile et sauvage et, à peine débarqués, les colons expriment leur colère face aux «écœurants «faisant partie des élites qui les ont poussés à monter vers le nord.
