Abstract
Experimentele archeologie heeft een prominente plaats bij AWN afdeling Helinium. Drie keer hebben ze een veldoven gebouwd om handgevormde potten te bakken, met als doel zwart aardewerk te produceren via reducerend bakken. In de Broekpolder van Vlaardingen werd een Educatief Archeologisch Erf opgericht, ideaal voor een nieuwe poging met Vlaardingencultuur aardewerk. Na het bouwen van de oven werd het aardewerk in 22,5 uur gebakken en daarna gereduceerd door extra brandstof toe te voegen en de oven te smoren. Hoewel het meeste aardewerk zwart werd, overleefden niet alle stukken het proces. De experimenten geven waardevolle inzichten, ondanks dat niet alle vragen volledig beantwoord zijn.
