Abstract
This is a record of the talk of Professor Emeritus Tadahisa Goto related to the history of the Naniwa Senior High School and its successor, the Division of General Education at Osaka University. Professor Goto, who was born in 1910 , majored in linguistics at Tokyo Imperial University and graduated from it, worked at some junior high schools in Chiba Prefecture and Osaka Prefecture as a teacher of English in his youth. In 1946 he became a professor of English at the Naniwa Senior High School. In 1949 the school was merged into the newly established Osaka University, and Professor Goto became an associate professor of its Division of General Education. There he fostered many students, and made a great effort to make an annual calendar of the many subjects. Professor Goto studied not only English but Kiswahili, which he taught to some students at Osaka University of Foreign Studies, now Osaka University School of Foreign Studies. He became Professor Emeritus in 1972.
