Abstract
To engage students in close reading and discussion of written works exploring experiences of illness and medicine from patients, families, and physicians, leading to a general understanding of how storytelling can enhance patient-physician interactions. We also will provide a space for students to react to literature and write their own creative works about experiences and issues in medicine. While engaging in discussions and self-reflection, students will draw connections between storytelling and perspectives, focusing on patient-physician communication and empathy. \n\nElective only.\n\nThis information has been collected for the Post-Discipline Online Syllabus Database. The database explores the use of literature by schools of professional education in North America. It forms part of a larger project titled Post-Discipline: Literature, Professionalism, and the Crisis of the Humanities, led by Dr Merve Emre with the assistance of Dr Hayley G. Toth.
