(Handout).; Supplementary material reads: "Eighteen year old Lomalee Thomas, Glendale College Sophomore and Hostess of the Descanso Gardens Summer Rose Festival at La Canada holds bouquet of Carrousel roses which were introduced to public by Mrs. C.E. Elmer of San Gabriel (center). On the right is Carl Duerhson of Montebello, hybridizer of the deep red Carrousel rose. Gold Medal Certificates were presented Mrs. Elmer and Mr. Duehrson yesterday afternoon at the Descanso Rose Festival by Fred W. Walters, vice president of the American Rose Society for bringing the Carrousel into existence. The Descanso Rose Festival will continue daily at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Canada, under auspices of the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. Feature of the closing week will be the lawn ballet dance 'Rose Fantasy' to be offered at 7 P.M., Tuesday, June 21. It will mark the opening day of Summer, 1955, as well as the longest day of the year. In another presentation yesterday, Walters gave a Silver Medal Certificate to Herbert /c, /swim of Ontario for hybridizing the modern rose, Helen Traubel".
