Des Lettres du Japon aux Relations de la mission au Canada, qui construisent la figure de Kateri Tekakwitha, le discours jésuite insiste sur la possibilité de l’éclosion d’une vie mystique féminine en dehors du couvent, lieu traditionnel de la vie consacrée. C’est cette modernité inattendue qu’étudie l’article tout en montrant que, si les textes retenus mettent en valeur chez les femmes le sens de la liberté, de la responsabilité et un authentique désir de Dieu, elles restent privées d’une parole personnelle.
