Oryphantes aliquantulus most resembles O. angulatus but can be distinguished from all members of the genus by the combination of the following characters: male palpal patella without conical tubercule (Fig. 10); male palp paracymbium bearing a long and wide tooth at mid-point (Fig. 10); lamella characteristica large, bifurcate apically (Figs 10, 13); embolus with large serrated thumb (Fig. 12). Female are diagnosed by the basal part of scape strongly constricted (Fig. 14). Description. Male (n=5): Total length: 1.60–1.70; carapace length: 0.67–0.70; carapace width: 0.57– 0.60; carapace light yellow-orange (1235M), finely reticulate, shiny. Sternum light yellow-orange (1235M), suffused with gray (warm gray 7M). Chelicerae light yellow-orange (1235M), promargin with 3 large teeth, retromargin with 4 denticles. Cheliceral stridulatory organ visible, with ~ 42 striae, narrowly spaced; associated stridulatory pick present at base of palpal femur. Abdomen uniformly colored, light beige (482M) to light gray (cool gray 3M) moderately covered with long semi-erected setae; book lung cover finely reticulate. Legs yellow-orange (1235M), leg formula 4123; tibia I–IV with two dorsal macrosetae; metatarsus I with dorsal trichobothrium (Tm I 0.15–0.17); Tm IV absent. Chaetotaxy: Fe I: 0-1-0-0, Fe II–IV: 0-0-0-0, Ti I: 2-1-1-0, Ti II: 2-0-1-0, Ti III–IV: 2-0-0-0, Mt I-IV: 1-0-0-0. Palpus length: 0.39–0.44. Palpal patella with large retrolateral macroseta (Fig. 10); palpal tibia with two retrolateral trichobothia and a dorsal one (Fig. 10); paracymbium (P) with long, wide tooth at mid-point (Fig. 10); embolic division characterized by: large radix (R) (Fig. 11); Fickert’s gland (FG) present in radix (Fig. 11); lamella characteristica (LC) large, bifurcate apically (Fig. 10), apex slightly variable (Fig. 13); terminal apophysis (TA) large and serrate (Fig. 11); embolus (E) with large serrated thumb (Th), embolus proper (EP) short (Fig. 12). Female (n=5): Total length: 1.60–1.80; carapace length: 0.64–0.70; carapace width: 0.54–0.57; overall coloration as in male. Chelicerae promargin with 3 teeth, smaller than male, retromargin with 4–5 denticles. Cheliceral stridulatory organ visible, with ~ 20 striae, widely spaced; associated stridulatory pick present at base of palpal femur. Abdomen as in male, book lung cover finely reticulate. Leg coloration as in male, leg formula 4123; tibia I–IV with two dorsal macrosetae; metatarsus I with dorsal trichobothrium (Tm I 0.16– 0.18); Tm IV absent; palpal tarsal claw present, reduced to a small triangular point. Chaetotaxy as in male. Epigynum width: 0.25–0.30. Epigynum lateral wall (LW) with elongated outgrowth, parallel to scape (Fig. 14); scape (Sc) folded; proximal part of scape basally narrowed, enlarging considerably (3x) (Figs 14, 15), ventral part bearing a scapus bag (SB) (Fig. 18); distal part of scape with short stretcher (St) (Figs 16, 17); spermathecae (S) oblong and bent (Fig. 18). Distribution. U.S.A.: Maine; Canada: Québec to Alberta (Fig. 20). Habitat. Forest litter, mainly conifers, and sphagnum. Etymology. The epithet aliquantulus means little or small in latin and refers to the small size of the species for a linyphiine.
