Abstract
Following the start of the road construction works, topsoil stripping was monitored by the Heritage Network. An area measuring approximately 200 x 70m was stripped, revealing a concentration of archaeological features dating from the late Bronze Age / early Iron Age to the modern period. The Heritage Network was commissioned by the developers to undertake open area excavation of the site. The investigation identified six phases of activity, including a small cluster of pits and postholes dating to the late prehistoric period. Limited evidence of later Iron Age occupation was recorded, but Romano-British settlement was well represented. The features dating to this period include a boundary ditch and evidence of a round house. A small number of cremation burials were also recorded. Medieval and post-medieval field boundaries and drainage ditches also crossed the site.
