Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This dataset contains the digitized treatments in Plazi based on the original journal article Otto, Robert L. (2012): Eucnemid Larvae of the Nearctic Region. Part II: Description of the Mature Larva ofDeltometopus amoenicornis (Say, 1836) (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae: Macraulacinae: Macraulacini), with Notes on Its Biology. The Coleopterists Bulletin 66 (3): 285-288, DOI: 10.1649/072.066.0317, URL: http://dx.doi.org/10.1649/072.066.0317ABSTRACTA description and illustrations of the mature larva of Deltometopus amoenicornis (Say, 1836) (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae: Macraulacinae: Macraulacini), endemic in the Nearctic region, are given. The description is based on mature larvae collected from pieces of rotten sugar maple wood (Acer saccharum Marshall). Adults were reared from larvae in wood placed in plastic bags and associated with larvae found earlier in the field and preserved. Biological information is provided based on literature records and personal observations. Comparative morphology among larvae of Deltometopus Bonvouloir, 1871 and two other eucnemid genera is briefly discussed. This is the first larval description for Deltometopus.Key Words: false click beetle, morphology, immature, Acer, WisconsinDeltometopus Bonvouloir, 1871 is a small New World genus (11 species) with a majority of the described species occurring in the Neotropical region. Nine of those species are distributed from central Mexico to South America: Deltometopus alacer Bonvouloir, 1871, Deltometopus constrictus Bonvouloir, 1871, Deltometopus fallax Bonvouloir, 1871, Deltometopus foveolatus (Guérin- Méneville, 1843), Deltometopus fulvicornis (Guérin- Méneville, 1843), Deltometopus fuscipes Bonvouloir, 1871, Deltometopus indocilis Bonvouloir, 1871, Deltometopus similis Bonvouloir, 1871, and Deltometopus stalii Bonvouloir, 1871. The remaining two species are from North America, north of Mexico. Deltometopus amoenicornis (Say, 1836) is widespread across much of the eastern United States from Texas to Florida northward to the Great Plains and northeastern USA as well as eastern Canada. The second species, Deltometopus barnowskii Muona, 2000, is restricted to the mountainous regions of eastern Arizona and western New Mexico. In relation to other genera within the speciose tribe Macraulacini, Deltometopus is defined by the adult characteristics of posteriorly widened, shallow, punctate, basally open lateral hypomeral antennal grooves, simple tarsal claws, small body size, bell-shaped pronotum, and narrow body form. Much of the known biology of its species is based on adults collected through various means. Information on larval biology was unknown until recently when I randomly selected rotten logs in search of larval Eucnemidae for future investigation. The following account of D. amoenicornis is the second in a long-term series of papers covering descriptions of larval Eucnemidae, with notes on their biology in the Nearctic region.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
