Abstract

Basisschool De Vlaswiek in Koewacht heeft een mesolithisch jachtkamp in de achtertuin, een unieke vondst op een pleistocene zandrug. De Werkgroep Archeologie Hulst (WAH), bestaande uit amateurarcheologen, betrok de school bij deze bijzondere vindplaats. Ze gaven theorielessen over de prehistorie en organiseerden praktische activiteiten zoals vuursteen kloppen, graan malen, en boogschieten. Het project eindigde met een tentoonstelling in de schoolbibliotheek, geopend door gemeentelijk archeoloog Nathalie de Visser. De tentoonstelling trok 250 bezoekers en was zo succesvol dat WAH besloot het project aan alle scholen in de regio aan te bieden.
