Scientific evaluation of Americans’ gains and losses show that preventing global warming is likely a bad thing: Multivariate estimates using survey data, N=10,000+ The effects of the anticipated 2 _C (3 or 4 _F) of global warming are small—on average equivalent for a typical American to moving just 180 miles south. Thus the likely impact of a century of warming is small. •Moreover the net impact of global warming is positive. According to my estimates, most Americans would benefit from a few degrees of global warming, with gains from warming in the winter outweighing losses from warming in the summer. •Residents of Canada, Northern Europe, Russia, and other cold nations would also benefit from a few degrees of global warming, if they react to temperature the way Americans do.
