L'objectif de la série de campagnes "NEXT STEP" (briNe formation in a warming world: EXTending the STorfjordEn Polynya time series) est de poursuivre la série temporelle unique documentant la formation d'eau dense par rejet de saumures dans le Storfjorden. Ces observations, initiées en 2011, sont essentielles pour documenter l'impact du réchauffement rapide et de grande ampleur, actuellement en cours dans les régions arctiques sur la formation d¿eaux denses et le flux air-mer de CO2 qui lui y est associé. Elles sont complémentaires des travaux d'observation en cours dans la mer de Barents (projet norvégien "Nansen Legacy") et le détroit de Nares (projet franco-canadien "Refuge Arctic"). Nous souhaitons donc assurer la continuité de la série chronologique de suivi de la formation d'eau dense dans le Storfjorden au cours des 5 à 10 prochaines années.
