Abstract
A cabinet card of South Park School, Los Angeles, California, USA, circa 1887. The image shows a few dozen students of vatying ages standing in front of the building, which is of frame construction and is one-story with a two-story center bell tower. The school, stands amid open space and fields with no indication of nearby buildings. On the reverse are ink inscriptions giving the location as Manchester and Avalon streets, where the modern South Park School stands, identifies a girl (with an indicating arrow on the photo) as Katie Nissen, the mother of the inscriber; and states that the school was known to him as Green Meadows School, though the school of that name is further south. The Nissen family resided at Green Meadows during that era and appears in the 1880 census there. With some substantial soiling, major edge rubbing and small stains, the overall condition is fair.
