Abstract
Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία εκπονήθηκε στο Εργαστήριο Υλικών Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς & Σύγχρονης Δόμησης, υπό την επίβλεψη της Αναπληρώτριας Καθηγήτριας της Σχολής Αρχ/ων Μηχ/ών κα. Ν. Μαραβελάκη, με αφορμή ερευνητική συνεργασία με την Αμερικάνικη Σχολή Κλασικών Σπουδών στο πλαίσιο του ερευνητικού προγράμματος «KOMMOS Archaeological Site/General Conditions Assessment». Στο πλαίσιο του παρόντος ερευνητικού προγράμματος το εργαστήριο ανάλαβε την συνολική αποτίμηση της κατάστασης διατήρησης των αρχαίων δομών, μέσω της αναγνώρισης των τύπων διάβρωσης επί των αρχιτεκτονικών επιφανειών και την φυσικοχημική ανάλυση των αυθεντικών λίθων και κονιαμάτων. Η σημαντικότητα του χώρου υπαγορεύεται από τους επί δεκαετιών ανασκαφείς και μελετητές του χώρου ομότιμους καθηγητές του University of Toronto, Joseph και Maria Shaw: μια ακμάζουσα Μινωική πόλη-λιμάνι, με εμπορικές σχέσεις με τη νότια Μεσόγειο, εξελίχθηκε σε έναν ιερό τόπο κατά τα Ελληνικά και Ελληνιστικά χρόνια. Η συνεχής δραστηριότητα και η έντονη στρωματογραφία εντός αυτών των περιόδων αλλά και μια σειρά ιδιαίτερα αξιόλογων αρχιτεκτονικών και άλλων ευρημάτων καθιστούν το χώρο ως μοναδική περίπτωση αρχαιολογικού χώρου στην Κρήτη. Η πρόταση συμβατών και αποτελεσματικών υλικών συντήρησης αποτελεί αναπόσπαστο τμήμα μιας ολιστικής μελέτης διαχείρισης του αρχαιολογικού χώρου. Προηγούμενες επεμβάσεις με ασύμβατα υλικά δημιούργησαν επιπρόσθετα προβλήματα. Η ολιστική μελέτη των αυθεντικών υλικών δόμησης, που επιχειρείται εδώ, αποτελεί την ενδεδειγμένη οδό για την αειφόρα διατήρηση της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς.
