Abstract
UNESCO Türkiye Millî Komisyonu adına 26-28 Eylül 2012 tarihlerinde Kanada’nın Vancouver kentinde yapılan “Dijital Çağda Dünya Belleği: Dijitalleştirme ve Koruma” (The Memory of the World in the Digital Age: Digitization and Preservation) konferansına katıldım. UNESCO ile British Columbia Üniversitesinin UNESCO’nun Dünya Belleği (Memory of the World) programının 20. yılını kutlamak ve dijital mirasın korunması konusundaki farkındalığı artırmak amacıyla düzenledikleri bu konferansa 110 ülkeden 500’ü aşkın kütüphaneci, arşivci, müzeci, bilgibilimci, bilgi ve iletişim teknolojisi uzmanı, hukukçu ve çeşitli disiplinlerden uzmanlar katıldı. Konferans UNESCO ve British Columbia Üniversitesinin yanı sıra Google, Microsoft gibi ticari şirketler ve Internet Society ve OCLC gibi kâr amacı gütmeyen kuruluşlar tarafından da desteklendi. Gerek davetli konuşmacılar gerekse bildiri sunanlar arasında çok değişik kesimlerden uzmanlar vardı. Örneğin, “Internet’in Babası” olarak bilinen Vinton Cerf ve Internet Arşivi’nin kurucusu Brewster Kahle davetli konuşmacılar arasındaydı. Bunun yanı sıra UNESCO’dan (UNESCO Genel Direktör Yardımcısı Janis Karklins ve çeşitli ülkelerden UNESCO ulusal komisyonu üyeleri), Amerikan Kongre Kütüphanesi (The Library of Congress, LC), Amerikan Ulusal Arşivleri ve Belgeleri İdaresi (National Archives and Records Administration, NARA) ve çeşitli ülkelerin ulusal kütüphane ve arşivlerinden, üniversitelerden, kamu kuruluşlarından, özel sektörden, dijital mirasın korunmasıyla ilgilenen dernek ve vakıflardan çok sayıda konuşmacı konferansa bildirileriyle katkıda bulundular. Vancouver’daki Sheraton Otelinde yapılan konferansta dokuz davetli konuşmacının yanı sıra yedi paralel oturumda 150’den fazla bildiri sunuldu, posterler sergilendi, dijital korumayla ilgili çeşitli konularda dört çalıştay ve altı gösteri (demo) yapıldı. Bu etkinliklerin birçoğuna katılmak mümkün olmasa da katıldığım oturumlarda tartışılan konulara aşağıda kısaca değinilmektedir.
