Abstract
Refugee youth resettle in Canada in search of a better future. Their adaptation process however is filled with challenges. A model of refugee adaptation and development and narrative theory were used as the guiding theoretical framework of this research. The purpose of this participatory action research study was to find out, from the youth themselves, what facilitates the successful adaptation process of refugee youth in Canada. To do so, three youth from three different continents came together to identify numerous factors that have contributed to helping them successfully adapt to the school system, learn to feel safe at school and within their community, cope with the impact of violence in their life, and adapt as a family. The findings of this study suggest that refugee youth's successful adaptation process is a shared responsibility between the youth, their family, and that of Canadian society.
