Abstract

This protocol describes an incentivized choice experiment in which participating decision-makers engage in a series of two-player games. In each game, payoff to each player is a vector. The two elements in the payoff vector are money paid to the individual decision-maker, and money transferred to a charity caring for patients. The experiment design enables identification of the causal link between randomness in behavior and the payoff levels in games. We present our aims and refutable hypotheses, describe the experiment, experimental procedure, and the plan for empirical analysis and hypothesis testing. The protocol provides documentation of the procedures applied to design the experiment and assess power. The experiment is conducted at McMaster Decision Science Laboratory at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. The first experimental session was scheduled on February 16, 2023.
