Abstract

Sinds 1979 verzamelde de Historische Kring Oosterhout (HKO) archeologisch materiaal uit verschillende opgravingen. De vondsten, zoals aardewerk, metalen voorwerpen en zelfs een Romeins gezichtsmasker, werden gedocumenteerd maar grotendeels niet gedetermineerd. In 2022 startte een werkgroep binnen AWN Nijmegen en HKO met het verwerken van deze “cold cases.” Belangrijke vondsten zijn onder andere een bronzen mantelspeld uit de late bronstijd en een Romeinse weg nabij Oosterhout. De werkgroep onderzoekt nu twaalf locaties, waarbij vondstcomplexen van onder andere woerden en verdronken dorpen worden gedetailleerd beschreven. De resultaten bieden nieuwe inzichten in het culturele en historische landschap van het rivierengebied.
