Over this range there is a northern and southern spawning component. The southern group spawns in the Mid-Atlantic Bight sometime between April and May. Following spawning, these fish migrate north into the Gulf of Maine. Mackerel are targeted in the MidAtlantic region by midwater trawl vessels between January and May
