La littérature réunit aujourd’hui plusieurs travaux sur le racisme systémique au Canada. Qu’elles analysent les domaines de la santé, du marché du travail, du système d’éducation ou des politiques, ces recherches, en augmentation, portent sur le racisme systémique et son impact sur les différents aspects du quotidien des personnes racisées au Canada. Dans le domaine des métiers, quelques textes scientifiques critiquent la profession du travail social et ses interactions avec le racisme systémique. Parmi ces textes, la plupart se concentre sur la formation interculturelle des travailleurs sociaux ou sur le rôle des travailleurs sociaux au sein des institutions de la protection de la jeunesse. Lorsqu’il s’agit du domaine de l’éducation et sa relation avec le racisme systémique, les auteurs choisissent surtout de se pencher sur les problèmes rencontrés par les étudiants racisés ainsi que sur le rôle joué par les enseignants. Cependant, peu d’écrits scientifiques abordent la question du travail social et de son rôle dans l’expansion ou la lutte contre le racisme systémique en milieu scolaire au Canada. En priorisant la théorie critique de la race et en analysant les expériences d’étudiants noirs et d’intervenants de la région d’Ottawa, cette recherche qualitative interroge les effets du travail social scolaire sur le racisme systémique. Elle montre que les étudiants noirs sous-utilisent les services en travail social scolaire dû à plusieurs facteurs liés au racisme systémique tels : la peur de ne pas être compris, le manque de représentativité et le manque de changements concrets.
