Abstract
Conversaciones contemporáneas sobre inmigración en los Estados Unidos refleja un intenso proceso de investigación en el marco del programa ImmigrantLifeCourse- ResearchProgram fundado en el año 2000 por la antropóloga Judith Freidenberg. Su autora, nacida en Argentina, se graduó en Ciencias Antropológicas en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. A continuación se trasladó a Estados Unidos donde se doctoró en Antropología en la City University of New York. Esta experiencia de desplazamiento que implicó su vida familiar y profesional es el marco desde el cual debe ser comprendida toda la propuesta de investigación en tanto perspectiva analítica, compromiso social y político con la materia. En la introducción a su propia identidad inmigrante, como etiqueta y doble pertenencia, la autora nos aproxima a la perspectiva que atraviesa todo el libro. En él se aborda el desplazamiento internacional como un fenómeno a ser explorado en la interacción entre sociedad receptora y sociedad de origen; experiencias concretas y contextos históricos y políticos; evaluaciones personales y representaciones exteriores; y siempre en diálogo con herramientas conceptuales, teóricas y analíticas.
