L’ascension fulgurante de TikTok, développé par Bytedance, a attiré l’attention mondiale, soulevant des questions cruciales sur son influence. Face à des préoccupations croissantes, de nombreux gouvernements, dont ceux de la France, de la Belgique, des États-Unis et du Canada, ont restreint l’accès à TikTok sur les appareils officiels, alimentant le débat sur la sécurité des données et les risques de fuite d’informations sensibles. Au-delà des préoccupations de sécurité nationale et de son lien avec la Chine, TikTok inquiète par son impact chez les jeunes utilisateurs, le manque de transparence sur les données récoltées et le fonctionnement de ses algorithmes ainsi que sa modération de contenu et de désinformation. Paradoxalement, malgré ces défis, TikTok demeure une plateforme privilégiée pour le contenu et les campagnes publicitaires de nombreuses entités, y compris celles qui en interdisent l’utilisation à leurs employés. Même le président Joe Biden y a désormais un compte et y fera campagne. Notre intervention explorera ces dynamiques complexes à travers une analyse de données originales. Nous questionnerons la dualité de TikTok, à la fois vecteur potentiel de désinformation et espace de diffusion de contenus informationnels de qualité, particulièrement dans le contexte canadien et québécois du blocage des nouvelles par Meta.
