Abstract
This article discusses a relatively novel field of study, bacterial locomotion, which was first studied by Purcell. The properties of low-Reynolds number flow, mechanics and dynamics of swimming in low Reynolds, drag-base thrust, Purcell theorem, and Scallop theorem are discussed in the paper. Golestanian swimmer, which is a model comprised of three spheres on the same axis is also reviewed in this article. The article also reviews the applications of artificial micro-swimmers, the designs of which are inspired by bacterial locomotion.
