Abstract
Reinterpretation of the jazz standard Stella by Starlight for vibraphone (João Catalão) and Mosaïque (Dominic Thibault). The duet explores musical possibility of concatenative synthesis in the context of modal improvisation in an idiomatic context. Mosaïque loads corpora built from improvisations by the two musicians on a Prophet 6 synthesizer. The shape of the corpora coincidences nicely with piece The Prophet (1990) by artist Frank Stella (1936–2024). Presented in world premiere at The Space Between II organized by the Canadian Percussion Network at McGill University, Canada on January 26th 2024. Video filmed at UNESP (Sao Paolo, Brasil) on March 29th 2025 by Paulo Pereira.
