Abstract
This article delves into the pivotal role played by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in maintaining peace and stability in the Balkans. Despite NATO's historical significance, persistent tensions and disputes between Serbia and Kosovo pose ongoing challenges to regional stability. This article examines the potential of NATO to defuse the Serbia-Kosovo crisis and facilitate a sustainable resolution. Furthermore, this study introduces a tertiary model that considers the intersection of race as a social construct, shaping the support extended by Western nations towards populations that share a racialization construct with them. Notably, countries with colonial histories such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada often incorporate racial parameters in their approach to human rights. Mere acknowledgment of past wrongs is insufficient; as emphasized by Nikole Hannah-Jones in The 1619 Project (2020), it is imperative to actively rectify these injustices. This research emphasizes that Bosnian, Kosovar, and Palestinian individuals are fundamentally human beings, irrespective of their religious beliefs. The level of support provided by the West to Bosnia and Kosovo should be matched, if not surpassed, in Palestine. It calls for the rejection of societal constructs that employ race as a metric for measuring collective humanity. Failing to treat one another as equals, primarily as fellow human beings, risks regression and stagnation. Lastly, for those who claim that societal issues are not always about race, it is vital to recognize the perpetual influence of race throughout history. By examining the role of NATO in the Serbia-Kosovo crisis and exploring the racial dynamics underlying Western support, this article provides valuable insights into promoting a sustainable resolution. It advocates for a holistic approach that transcends racial boundaries and prioritizes human dignity and equality. Understanding these dynamics contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of conflicts and paves the way for effective strategies that address the root causes of instability, fostering a more just and inclusive global society.
