Tämä on taustatiedosto simulaattorille, jota käytettiin Luontopaneelin raportin ”Suomen luonnon tila ja luontopolitiikan tavoitteet – Toimenpide- ja rahoituskuilu luontokadon pysäyttämiseksi” (Kangas ym. 2023) laskennoissa. Raportissa esitetyt maakunnittaiset arviot Suomen luonnon monimuotoisuuden muutoksesta vuosien 2020 ja 2040 välillä on tuotettu tässä dokumentissa kuvatulla ELITES-simulaattorilla. ELITES on kehitetty metsien ja puustoisten soiden piirteiden ajallisen ja paikallisen kehityksen simulointiin, ja se huomioi rakennetun alan kehityksen, hakkuut sekä erilaisia politiikkarelevantteja suojelu-, ennallistamis- ja luonnonhoitotoimia. Simulaatioiden tarkoituksena on tutkia erilaisien politiikkaskenaarioiden vaikutusmahdollisuuksia Suomen luonnon monimuotoisuuden tilaan. Aineistojen esiprosessointi on kuvattu Kangas ym.
